Our friends at Polaris Church approached us with a bold plan to to make a big impact in small ways. Columbus Can is an initiative that provides the tools to meet practical needs in the city. Their first goal was to collect 10,000 cans of food in one week through the simple act of hosting block parties. Long term, Columbus Can plans to partner with businesses and organizations throughout the city to create a sustainable pattern of change.
Columbus Can is about creating a better future for our city. We created a visual identity based on this idea of potential. By adding a colon to the name, we created an open-ended phrase that represents unlimited possibilities. This simple phrase can be finished in unlimited ways, creating a dynamic, ever-evolving identity. The double dot icon also represents partnership and doubles as a metaphor for the initial focus on collecting canned goods. From this foundation, we built a strong system of typography, color, and icons.
